Should I Vacuum My Wood Floors?

Updated: Oct 18, 2019

Q: Can I vacuum my wood floors?

Vacuuming wood floors is a great idea. Dirt and particles that are left on the floor act like an abrasive when people walk on them, so vacuuming them as often as possible will prolong the life of the finish.

Here's a few things to look for in a vacuum that will work well with your hardwood:

No beater bar! – Don't use a vacuum with a beater bar, which can damage the finish.

This is the biggie of the list.

Suction power – Hardwoods typically need a vacuum with stronger suction to pick up all the dirt or debris. Try to find a vacuum with more than 1000 watts of power to ensure you'll have trouble sucking up the dirt.

Crevice tools – Edges, small gaps between furniture/walls, and spaces underneath objects can all be reached by this handy little helper. These tools will be a big help on the hardwood floors!
